Whenever I need something easy and quick for dessert, this French Apple Cake is my go-to. All you need are a few simple ingredients and a bowl to whip this up. This recipe is a must not only for winter but all year round. Serve this moist cake with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert or dust with Icing Sugar and/or Cinnamon Powder and enjoy for an afternoon tea.

Step 5: Place the eggs and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Mix well until foamy, then add the melted butter and applesauce. Whisk until blended.

Step 6: Then, stir in the plain flour, baking powder, and salt. If desired, you can add ground cinnamon.

Step 7: Into the cake batter, fold in the slices of apple.

Step 8: Into the prepared pan, pour the cake batter and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean.

Step 9: Remove from the oven when done and serve the cake warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. If desired, you can dust the cake with a bit of Icing Sugar and/or Cinnamon Powder. Enjoy!

Note:

  • Alternately, you can place around 1/4 of the cubed apples on the cake batter. This will be a nice decoration, showing more of the apples on the cake.
