INGREDIENTS :
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 3 tablespoons boiling water
- 1 teaspoon dry active yeast
- 8 ounces all-purpose flour (a little under 2 cups)
- 1 ½ ounces sugar (about 3 tablespoons)
- 1 egg 1-ounce butter, cold to room temperature
- 1 dash salt oil Glaze
- 1/3 cup butter
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
- 4 tablespoons hot water (or as needed)
DIRECTIONS :
Step 1: Combine the milk and boiling water in a measuring jug. Add a teaspoon of the milk and boiling water mixture to the sugar and the yeast. Stir it gently, and let it sit in a warm place so the yeast can foam.
Step 2: Combine the flour, the rest of the sugar, and the salt in a large mixing bowl. Cut in the butter using a pastry blender, until it looks like crumbs.
Step 3: Beat the eggs gently, then add the beaten eggs and yeast mixture to the flour mix, and mix into a smooth dough for about 5 minutes.
Step 4: Turn the dough out into a lightly-floured counter and press in for about 5 to 10 minutes until it gets springy and little bubbles form under the surface. Place the mixture back in the bowl, cover it with a cloth or plastic wrap, and leave it to rise for about an hour until the size doubles.
Step 5: When they rise, place the dough into the counter and cut it into 4 pieces. Cut strips in a way that they are about an inch long, use your hands to ball them up, and place them on a baking tray.
Step 6: Cover the doughnut holes with a cloth, leaving it to rise while you heat the oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 7: Put the doughnuts into the oil and let it fry for about 2 minutes or until each of the sides turns golden brown.
Step 8: Drain them on a paper towel, before glazing them. Serve and enjoy.
Cooking Tips:
- While frying, fry only a few at a time so they don’t stick together.
- After cutting, stretch it into a long rope that is about an inch to an inch and a half wide
