This Tennessee Onions is an exceptional recipe. Incredibly easy and quick to throw together using only a few simple ingredients. For best results, I suggest using Vidalia onions, but you can use any sweet onions. Also, good quality cheese makes a whole lot of difference. So, use one if possible. Enjoy these Vidalia onions over hamburgers, steaks, or as a side dish. This is even perfect to serve to your vegetarian friends or guests.
INGREDIENTS :
- 4 tablespoons stick of unsalted butter
- 2-3 whole Vidalia onions or any sweet onion
- 1 c. mozzarella Cheese
- 1 c. sharp cheddar cheese the better quality, the better taste
- ½ c. Parmesan cheese
- Fresh oregano or other herbs for garnish
- Garlic salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS :
Step 1: Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish using a nonstick cooking spray. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Into 1/4 to 1/2-inch pieces, slice the Vidalia onions and separate the rings. In the prepared baking dish, lay the rings and sprinkle with 1 tsp garlic salt and half tsp pepper.
Step 3: Into pats, cut the batter and place them on top of the onions. Sprinkle the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over and top with grated Parmesan cheese.
Step 4: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes, uncovered or until bubbly and the cheese begins to brown.
Step 5: Let the Tennessee Onions cool for a couple of minutes, then serve garnished with some fresh herbs such as oregano, chives, or thyme. Enjoy!
Notes:
- These Tennessee Onions are great over hamburgers, steaks, or as a side dish.
- Make sure to slice the sweet onions at an even thickness (about half an inch thick).
- For this recipe, you can use any sweet onions but my best option is Vidalias or Texas Sweets.
- Using the best quality cheese makes a whole lot of difference!
