I found my weakness. This mouthwatering Philly Cheesesteak with tender ribeye steak, melted cheese, and caramelized onions squeezed in a toasted garlic butter hoagie roll is to die for! This is an easy restaurant-quality meal that you can make any time right at home.
INGREDIENTS :
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 garlic clove, pressed
- 1 pound Ribeye steak, trimmed and thinly sliced
- 1 sweet onion, (large), diced
- 4 Hoagie Rolls, sliced 3/4 through
- 8 slices provolone cheese, mild (not aged provolone)
- 2-4 tablespoons mayonnaise, or to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon Sea salt, or to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper, or to taste
DIRECTIONS :
Step 1: Using a serrated knife, slice the hoagie rolls 3/4 way of the way through. Then, dice the onions and slice the beef thinly.
Step 2: Mix 2 tbsp softened butter and 1 pressed garlic clove in a small bowl. Onto the cut sides of 4 hoagie rolls, spread the garlic butter. Then, on a large skillet, toast the buns over medium heat until golden brown. You can also do it on a flat cooktop or griddle.
Step 3: To your pan/cooktop, add 1 tbsp of oil. Then, add the diced onions and saute until caramelized. When done, transfer the caramelized onions to a bowl.
Step 4: Adjust the heat to high and add another 1 tbsp oil to the pan/cooktop. In an even layer, spread the thinly sliced steak and cook for a few minutes, undisturbed, until brown. Flip and sprinkle with half tsp each of salt and black pepper. Cook the steak until done, then stir in the caramelized onions.
Step 5: Divide the meat and caramelized mixture into 4 even portions. Top each portion with 2 slices of cheese. Turn the heat off.
Step 6: On the toasted side of each roll, spread a thin layer of mayo. Over each portion, place the toasted buns. Scrape the cheesy beef into the buns using a spatula as you flip it over. Serve the Philly Cheesesteak right away. Enjoy!
