Chilli hot dogs are my favourite! It reminds me of my childhood, my mom, our old house, and our fun backyard barbecue and picnics. I have my usual favourite chilli hot dog recipe that I got from my mom, but whenever I feel like going to the other side, this oven-baked hot dogs recipe is my go-to. The crispy outer edges of this loaded, oven-baked chilli dog are to die for!
My mom makes the best chili hot dog! Whenever we are throwing backyard parties, her chilli dog is the most requested. It’s even my dad’s favourite on game day! In my opinion, chilli dogs are the perfect appetizer for every occasion. Super good, you will not mind getting your hands dirty. When I went to college, a friend showed me her take on the popular chilli dogs, and these oven-baked hot dogs were born! I just realized that I have been making and loving these oven-baked hot dogs for more than a decade! My kids and husband are also obsessed with these oven-baked hot dogs, and I cannot blame them. These are also undoubtedly crowd-favourite!
INGREDIENTS :
- 8 hot dog buns
- 8 hot dogs
- 1/2 can onion diced
- 1 can of chilli or leftover homemade chilli
- cheddar cheese
- stone-ground mustard
- dill relish
- Mayonnaise
DIRECTIONS :
Step 1: Make a line of mayonnaise and mustard inside the hot dog buns. Evenly distribute the relish.
Step 2: Into a 9 x 13-inch baking pan, squeeze the stuffed buns.
Step 3: Cover the hot dogs with chili, diced onion, and cheese.
Step 4: Using aluminum foil, tent the hot dogs. Place in a 350 degrees oven and bake for about 45 minutes.
Step 5: Remove from the oven when done. Using a spatula, carefully take the baked hot dogs from the pan.
Step 6: Serve and enjoy!
