Flavor-packed meatballs smothered in a rich and creamy gravy. These meatballs and gravy are the best meal to treat your family to a very comforting, filling dinner!

INGREDIENTS :

Meatballs:

  • 1 egg – slightly beaten
  • 1 lb Ground Beef (use ground round. I don’t recommend using anything too lean as we want some fat for flavor)
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper
  • ½ tsp Onion Powder
  • ¼ c. Bread Crumbs plain
  • Canola Oil for frying – enough to cover the bottom of a large, deep skillet with ¼ – ½” of oil (about 1½ c.)
  • 1 tsp Salt

Gravy:

  • 2 c. Beef Broth
  • 3 tbsp Flour
  • ½ c. Half & Half
  • 3 tbsp Butter

DIRECTIONS :

Meatballs:

Step 1: In a large bowl, place the ground beef and add the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, egg, and bread crumbs. Using your hands, mix well until the ingredient are just combined. Make sure not to overwork the meat.

Step 2: Into rounds, shape the ground beef, just a bit smaller than a golf ball to make about 20 meatballs.

Step 3: To a large, deep skillet, pour enough oil to cover the bottom by around ¼ – ½ inch (about 1½ cups) and heat over medium-high. Once the oil is hot, add the meatballs to the skillet and fry for about 5 to 6 minutes, turning the meatballs a few times until all sides are browned.

Step 4: On a plate or pan, transfer the meatballs when done. Loosely tent the meatballs with aluminium foil or put the plate in the microwave or oven to keep the meatballs warm.

Gravy:

Step 5: To make the gravy, first, drain the oil from the skillet, but do not wipe or wash the skillet.

Step 6: Melt the butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the flour once the butter has melted and is foamy. Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring often. Then, gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring until incorporated. Bring the sauce to a simmer and return the meatballs to the skillet. Adjust the heat to medium-low.

Step 7: Put the lid on and cook the meatballs for about 15 minutes, stirring often. Next, stir in the half-and-half.

Step 8: Adjust the heat to low and continue to cook further to allow the flavors to blend. This takes another 3 to 5 minutes. If needed, season the gravy with extra salt.

Step 9: When done, serve the meatballs and gravy immediately over mashed potatoes or egg noodles. These meatballs are also amazing on their own. Enjoy!
