INGREDIENTS :

  • 6 medium Yukon Gold Potatoes

Cheese Sauce

  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced into strings
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ c all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 c half and half, or milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon sage
  • 2 c cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/2 c Gruyere cheese shredded
  • 1 c cooked ham, diced

Topping/Garnish

  • 1/4 c Parmesan, finely grated into a powder
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Parsley, roughly chopped

DIRECTIONS :

To Make the Cheese Sauce:

Step 1: Shred the Gruyere and cheddar cheese, then put them into a bowl.

Step 2: Place a saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium.

Step 3: Add butter and allow it to melt.

Step 4: Add the sliced onions and sauté for several minutes until caramelized.

Step 5: Add the garlic and sauté for a minute or until aromatic.

Step 6: Add the flour and stir until the texture turns into a paste.

Step 7: Heat the milk inside the microwave, then pour it into the pan. Stir until well mixed.

Step 8: Add 1/2 teaspoon of oregano, 3/4 teaspoon of rosemary, and sage. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes, then remove from the heat.

Step 9: Add the 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheeses gradually. Stir until well mixed.

Step 10: Add the ham and stir until well mixed.

To Assemble:

Step 1: Prepare the oven and preheat to 200 degrees C or 400 degrees F.

Step 2: Slice into thin cuts the peeled potatoes.

Step 3: Arrange about 1/3 of the potato slices overlapping each other on a 9×13-inch casserole dish.

Step 4: Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5: Spread 1/3 of the cheese sauce on top of the potato layer. Make sure to cover the potatoes with the delicious sauce.

Step 6: Repeat the process to the rest of the potatoes and cheese sauce.

Step 7: Sprinkle a generous amount of cheddar cheese on top and some sliced ham.

Step 8: Place it inside the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until done.
